What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is also known ‘Diabetes Mellitus’, is a common problem faced by people. It is caused when a person faces the problem of high blood sugar levels in his/her body. The main reason for diabetes is – either the pancreas is not able to produce enough amount of insulin required to control the blood sugar levels or the insulin produced by the pancreas is not properly responded by the cells.

There are 3 types of Diabetes Mellitus:

Type 1 Diabetes- it is a kind of diabetes when the body is not able to generate insulin and is dependent on insulin, injected from outside. This type of diabetes mellitus generally occurs in teenage or in the age when a person is about to enter his 40s.

Type 2 Diabetes- it is a kind of diabetes where the pancreas produces adequate insulin, but that quantity is not properly absorbed by the cells of the body, which result in high levels of blood sugar level.

Type 3 Diabetes- it is a gestational type, which generally occurs in pregnant women without any previous diagnosis of the disease.

Home Remedies for Diabetes

1. Bitter gourd

Drink a glass full of bitter gourd juice in the morning empty stomach. This will help you to maintain proper glucose levels in your body, over a period of few months. Bitter gourd tastes really bitter when you drink it, but it is very benefiting.

2. Fenugreek

Fenugreek also helps in controlling diabetes mellitus in your body. Soak some fenugreek seeds in water and leave them overnight. Have them the next morning empty stomach. Else, you can add powdered fenugreek in your milk and drink it every day to treat your diabetes.

3. Guavas

Guavas are highly fibrous and are rich in vitamin C. you can maintain a healthy glucose level by having a guava every day.

4. Mango leaves

Mango leaves also work great in diabetes. Soak few mango leaves in water overnight. Consume them the next morning, prior eating or drinking anything else. You can also have them in powdered form. For this, you need to dry the mangos leaves and make the powder out of them and store. Have this powder with water, two times a day, for effective results.

5. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is another great ingredient for patients, suffering from diabetes. Mix 4 teaspoons of cinnamon powder in water and boil it on low flame. Consume this extract daily for maintaining healthy blood glucose levels in your body.

6. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a magic pot that has a solution for every health problem and diabetes is not an exception. Mix equal quantities of aloe Vera juice, turmeric, and bay leaf together. Have this mixture every day before your meal. It will help in keeping the blood glucose levels in control.

7. Indian gooseberry

Gooseberries are rich in vitamin C. they help pancreas to produce optimum quantities of insulin to maintain a healthy blood glucose level. Consume two teaspoons of amla juice and with water, every morning, on an empty stomach, to keep away diabetes.

8. Fig leaves

Fig leaves possess anti-diabetic properties, for they are used in the effective treatment of the disease. Consume fig leaves by boiling in water and have it like tea. You can also chew them empty stomach, early in the morning, to keep diabetes at bay.

9. Grape seed extract

Grape seeds have been proven to cure the problem of diabetes. They are rich in vitamin E, flavonoids, and linoleic acid. A person can consume 300 mg capsule of grounded grape seed extract, to treat and cure the disease.

10. Garlic

Garlic is known for its properties to lower the high levels of cholesterol in the body. Garlic contains a chemical called allicin, which is known to have hypoglycemic effects that help to keep diabetes at bay.

11. Neem

Neem has both antifungal and anti-bacterial properties, and it is efficient enough in reducing insulin requirements of the body by around 50 percent.

12. Jamun

Jamuns are not available throughout the year, but consuming them during the season can be really helpful in keeping diabetes at bay. It is advised to have at least 100 grams of jamun every day in the season, to cure the disease.

13. Curry leaves

Curry leaves are helpful in controlling diabetes as they possess anti-diabetic properties. Curry leaves contain an ingredient that reduces the rate at which starch is broken down to glucose in diabetics.

So, just simply chew about 10 fresh curry leaves daily in the morning after washing them in warm water. Continue this for three to four months for better results. Well, it also helps in reducing high cholesterol levels and obesity.

14. Jambul

The leaves and berries of jambul plant help in controlling the blood sugar levels. Having them in your daily diet can make pancreas working more efficacious, which, benefits the diabetic patients.

15. Okra

Okra, also called lady finger, contain constituents such as polyphenol molecules that help to reduce blood glucose levels and control diabetes. A study published in 2011 found okra seed and peel powder to have antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic properties.

Take a few okras and cut off their ends. Now, prick them in several places using a fork and soak them in a glass of water overnight. The next morning, discard the okras and drink the water on an empty stomach. Continue doing this daily for several weeks. Moreover, include okra in your diet.

  • Avoid meat and other processed non-vegetarian foods. Go for poultry or fish.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Try meditation, listen to your favorite music, or working on your hobby to relieve yourself from stress as it may raise your blood sugar.
