Ketosis is a state when your body starts burning fats instead of carbohydrates as an energy source. How the body comes into a state of ketosis. It is due to not getting enough carbohydrates. Our body will start burning any alternate source to get energy and this alternate source is fat.

These diets enforce eating low carb foods to limit carbohydrates in your body. Your body will start burning fats and ultimately you will lose weight.

Either you are in ketosis state as your own or unknowingly, this may be good or may be bad for you. Don’t start following any weight loss diet without a prescription of a nutritionist. Because all people are not the same. If someone can lose weight by following a keto diet, it doesn’t mean you can also. Some diets can impact your body negatively by limiting nutrients that are required.

So if you are in ketosis state, how you can know that? In this article, we will discuss some signs and symptoms to check if your body is in a ketosis state.

 

Bad Breath:

Bad breath is very common if your body is in a ketosis state. But if your body is ar the start of ketosis state you may not get bad breath. Your breath will become worse if your body reaches a full state of ketosis.

It is very common with all low carb diets. People who followed the keto diet, Atkins diet, and boiled egg diet, all said that they feel the fruity smell in their breath. Actually, it is not due to the diet which you are following.

It is due to the specific foods which you are eating. These foods raise ketone levels in the body and it results in bad breath. Acetone is the main ketone that is responsible for bad breath.

Bad breath may impact your social life but don’t worry about that, you can talk from distance. Someone may feel it disturbing that your breath is smelly but it’s a positive sign for you. If your breath is bad it means your diet is working.

Bad breath issue can be resolved by brushing several times a day. You can also use any mouth wash several times a day to add fragrance in your breath. You can also use sugar-free gum.

Don’t use products with carbs to lower bad breath. These products may reduce ketone levels in the body.

 

Increased Sleep:

Changing your diet and convert it from high carb to low carb will impact your body somehow. A diet change will increase your sleep as your body will react differently.

Ketogenic diet or ketosis state can increase your sleep and in some cases, insomnia is also reported.

Some people report that they wake up at night without any reason. This may be due to diet change. But there isn’t anything to worry about it will settle down with time. Eventually, a low carb diet will improve your sleep.

 

Decreased Performance:

Just take an example to understand this. If you never went for a walk for fitness and suddenly one day you have to run just 3 kilometers what will happen? You may get ill. Your legs will become too tired and you may become unable to walk properly for some days. This is all due to running suddenly without your body making use of it.

This happens when your body comes into a ketosis state. Your body is used to get energy from carbs and suddenly now it has to get energy by burning fats. This can lead to decreased performance. You will feel tired all day. You will no more interested in physical activities. Your exercise performance will also be decreased. But there is nothing to worry about that. Decreased performance and lack of interest are temporary. You will get back to regular routine soon when your body will become used to a low carb diet.

Slowly, your body will burn fat properly to get energy and you will become more healthy and active than before.

 

Increased Focus:

All the side effects of ketosis state are short term. The key to getting fit and benefits of the low carb diet is stick to the diet.  People who follow a low carb diet claim that they have increase energy and focus than before.

As a low carb diet is beneficial for your health it can also improve brain functionality that can result in increased focus and brain functionality.

As there are no carbs in your body to convert to energy, your body starts burning fats to get energy. Fats can make you lazy and less effective but by burning fat, you can become physically more active and healthy.

When your body is in ketosis state, instead of glucose, brains starts burning ketones. At the start, you may feel dull due to this but slowly your brain will become more effective than before.

This can increase memory as well.
