“Oh god I have gained 3kgs, I need to cut down my calories. So from tomorrow, I’ll have only green tea in morning”. Really? You think your breakfast is responsible for your weight gain? Do you think having only green tea in morning meal can help you cut down your weight! Oh! You are so very wrong here.

You know it is very easy to skip breakfast- I am getting late, I can’t have my breakfast, I am gaining weight, I’ll cut down my breakfast, I should have only 1 glass of milk in morning else I’ll gain weight, etc. etc. reasons you give.

But dear instead of giving reasons for skipping breakfast, try finding reasons to have breakfast. You’ll actually see positive changes in your body once you get in a habit of having healthy full plate breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is always mentioned by health nutritionist that people should have a good breakfast, then slightly down with their daily meal and very light dinner. But how many of you actually follow this?

In an attempt to cut down your net calorie intake and fulfilling that dream goal of becoming slim, the majority of Millennials have a tendency to skip the breakfast. Well, there is no disagreeing that this will yield results, but only temporary ones.

Skipping breakfast has consistently been linked to health risks which include– overweight, high blood pressure, dizziness and an unhealthy assortment of blood-fats, etc.

1. You might gain weight instead of losing

According to a research study published in JAMA, it stated –“men who skip breakfast consistently have about 27% more chances of getting a heart attack when compared to those who eat breakfast regularly”. Well, Dr. Leah Cahill, who led the research, explains that the rate of risk is not so worrisome. But also highlights the importance of indulging in a healthy breakfast that could actually curb the risk of heart attacks.

In addition to this, people avoiding breakfast are also known to have an increased susceptibility to hypertension, leading to clogging of arteries.

 

3. Risk of having type 2 diabetes

According to a research study conducted by Harvard University School of Public Health, women who had the habit of skipping their breakfast were at a higher risk of developing Type-2 diabetes, than women who consistently had their breakfast. Also, it became worse in the case of working women, who skipped their morning meals had 54% more chances of developing Type 2 diabetes.

The British research team performed a study on 144 healthy people who underwent an overnight fasting. They divided people into a group of three.

One group was given a healthy, moderate breakfast, only coffee was given to the second group, and the third group was not given breakfast.

Then these three groups were monitored for a couple of hours. The results were- the group with no breakfast showcased the poorest memory skills and highest fatigue levels. The other two groups were quite similar in results and showcased good health. This brings us to only one thing that avoiding breakfast can have negative impacts on both energy and mood.

Avoiding breakfast can make you overindulge in food during day time. This, in turn, gets you indulged in increased prevalence of obesity. According to a research study conducted by the Cancer Research UK, it was revealed that a person who is overweight or obese poses a great risk of developing cancer.

Hair loss is one of the major side effects of skipping breakfast. Having a meal that contains low levels of protein can seriously affect the levels of keratin, retarding your hair growth and triggering hair loss. Breakfast is the most important meal of any day and plays a major role in promoting the growth of hair follicles. In one of the group, it was allowed to have breakfast, and in the second group, they were asked to refrain from the morning meal. The results showed that the group on a breakfast regimen had better accuracy in a visual search test, while the group with the lack of breakfast hampered with the results.

 

9. Affects your metabolism

Can you think of starting your car with no fuel? No, right? Similarly, to charge yourself up you also need fuel that is you need breakfast to give your metabolism a kick start.

Breakfast is the first meal of the day you are feeding your body with, after a rest for about 12 hours. So, it is important that you feed yourself good to boost your energy levels. According to the studies conducted on importance of breakfast, people having regular breakfast meal have a higher level of resting metabolism.

 

10. May worsen your hangover

It sometimes happens when you overdo your alcohol but it’s fine as you can use a good breakfast to ward off your hangover. Having a healthy breakfast rich in iron, and other minerals and vitamins helps your body to compensate for the lost nutrients. It will also boost up your energy levels.

On the other side if you skip your breakfast then it can worsen the hangover by bringing down the sugar levels, which is a clear invitation to headaches and nausea. So, to overcome your hangover, just have a healthy breakfast.
