Diagnosis of Dengue

Dengue infection can be diagnosed via a blood test, where the physician will test your blood sample for antigens and antibodies.

Positive IgM and IgG tests for dengue antibodies detected in an early blood sample (just after the fever ) mean that the person most probably became infected with dengue virus within 3-5 days. If the IgG is positive but the IgM is low or negative, then it is most probably that the person had an infection sometime in the past.

If the IgG is positive but the IgM is low or negative, then it is most probably that the person had an infection sometime in the past.

You are also advised to go for a Complete Blood cell counts (CBC), to check the Platelet counts. The normal range is between 1.5 lakh and 4 lakh. Anything below 1.5 Lakh needs attention.
