Gas is one of the most common and embarrassing health problems, faced by the people. It is not a disease, but an indication of some other ill-health condition. It can cause various health problems.

In the human body, intestinal gas is always present in the digestive tract, from the stomach to the rectum. If this intestinal gas develops excessively then it causes severe problems, like belching, burping, or flatulence. This excess intestinal gas problem starts when the food we eat stays in the stomach for a very long period. It then puts a lot of pressure on the stomach and esophagus and as a result, people suffer from the problem of indigestion. For the digestion of food, acid is required and when there is not sufficient acid in the stomach for digestion, gas is produced.

There are two types of gas– upper digestive gas and lower digestive gas. The upper digestive gas forms when we swallow air while drinking or eating. It is then passed out through the mouth in the form of a burp.

Whereas, lower digestive gas is formed through the fermentation of food. It passes out through the anus. There are four ways through which, gas moves out from the digestive tract:

  • Belching
  • Absorption of gas into the blood
  • Passing out through anus (fart)
  • Consumption by intestinal bacteria

Generally, the problem of gastric trouble arises due to bacteria are known as H Pylori.

Here are some other causes of gastric problems:

  • Eating too spicy
  • Improper chewing of food
  • A regular habit of having excess sauces and condiments
  • Malfunctioning of intestines
  • A habit of talking while eating
  • Over-eating
  • Excessive drinking of alcohol
  • Swallowed air, if not burp
  • Bacterial infection
  • Use of laxatives in excess
  • Improper digestion
  • Constipation
  • Use of artificial additives

Some common symptoms of gastric trouble are:

  • Flatulence
  • Bloating
  • Excessive hiccups
  • Bad breath
  • Sharp punching cramps in abdomen
  • Belching
  • Lack of appetite

Home remedies for relieving gas problems:

1. Garlic

Garlic is known for it’s pungent and heating qualities, which helps reduce the gastric fire. One should have fresh garlic soup, for proper digestion. Garlic is very effective during gas problems.

Take some ground garlic cloves and boil them in water. Then add cumin seeds and black pepper in it. After boiling for a few minutes, strain it and let it cool down. Drink this solution three times a day for effective results.

2. Ginger

Ginger is traditional and also the best cure for gastric trouble. To prevent gas and problems of indigestion, one should regularly chew fresh ginger pieces after having a meal. If you can’t chew it raw, add some dry pieces of ginger during the preparation of food. Ginger tea is also effective in curing gas. You can also use Ginger oil. It provides relief from gas. Apply 2-3 drops of ginger oil on the stomach and then rub it thoroughly.

3. Black pepper

It is considered a great ayurvedic medicine for healing acidity and indigestion. Black pepper helps in increasing the hydrochloric acid release in the stomach. Intake of powdered pepper with jaggery helps to cure gastric irritation. You can also prepare a mixture of ginger powder, coriander seeds, dried mint leaves, and black pepper in equal quantity. Have a teaspoon of the mixture two times a day.

4. Caraway seeds

The tea prepared by Caraway seeds is used for the healing of gastric problems. Add one teaspoon of caraway seeds in a cup of boiling water. Steep for a few minutes and strain. Drink it before having lunch or dinner. You can also chew roasted caraway seeds mixed with rock salt.

5. Buttermilk

Freshly churned buttermilk is also considered as the best remedy for indigestion. It along with healing your gastric problem also keeps you fit and healthy. Add a pinch of salt and roasted powdered cumin seeds in buttermilk and drink.

6. Cloves

It is one of the best home remedies for bloating. Cloves easily reduce the pain caused by gas in the stomach. Chew a few pieces of cloves directly to get relief from pain. If you can chew cloves, use clove oil.

7. Fennel

For instant relief from gas pain, chew fennel seeds directly. You can also have fennel tea. For tea, add tea leaves and crushed fennel seeds in boiling water. Let it steep and then add jaggery and a quarter cup of milk in it. Strain and drink the tea.

8. Warm water

When we have gas, most of the time we feel a severe stomach ache and are unable to eat anything. It is important to drink warm water at regular intervals. This helps in maintaining the levels of water in the body and also helps in getting rid of the gas.

9. Asafoetida

Take a glass of warm water and add a pinch of asafoetida to it. Stir it well and drink three times a day. You can also make a paste of asafetida. Apply it directly to the stomach. Moreover, take a ripe banana and add a pinch of asafoetida and eat it two times a day.

10. Apple cider vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is an all-rounder. It has a solution to every health problem. Take some warm water and 2-3 tbsp. of ACV to it. Allow it to cool. Drink the solution. It soothes the stomach-ache caused due to gas.

11. Cardamom

Cardamom is used to speed up the process of digestion. Add cardamom powder, while cooking vegetables or rice. Else, chew cardamom pods 2-3 times a day to remove gas trouble.

12. Lemon and Baking Soda

It looks like a chemistry experiment but it is a great remedy to solve your gastric trouble. Squeeze one fresh lemon into a glass and add some baking soda to it. You will see bubbles start formulating. Now add one cup of water in a glass with some more baking soda. Stir the solution. Make sure baking soda gets dissolved properly. Drink.

13. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is widely used for medicinal purpose and it is also one of the essential ingredients to make the food tasty. Prepare cinnamon tea for healing gastric trouble. Add cinnamon powder in boiling water. Steep for some time and strain. Drink. You can also add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of warm milk with some honey. Stir well and drink.

14. Gooseberry

Gooseberry is again an all-rounder for our health problems. It is for curing problems related to hair, stomach, skin, etc. It is rich in fiber and Vitamin C, which helps in curing the problem of acidity and indigestion. Drink amla juice every morning on an empty stomach.

15. Carom seeds

Carom seeds are also a traditional method used for curing gastric trouble, indigestion, and nausea. Crush a half teaspoon of carom seeds. Mix asafoetida and salt. swallow it with water.

16. Turmeric leaves

Turmeric is best known for its medicinal properties. Grind some turmeric leaves. Mix them in a glass of milk and then drink it. It helps alleviate gastric trouble.

17. Potato juice

Grind some potatoes. squeeze the ground potatoes and collect the juice. Drink this juice before having meals.

18. Guava leaves

Put some guava leaves in boiling water. strain the leaves and drink the water.

19. Brandy

There You go, I can see that smile on your face. But, yes brandy is also used for healing gastric troubles. take a glass of warm water and add two teaspoons of brandy in it. Stir well and drink it before going to sleep.

20. Dill Oil

It is quite unknown and not so famous remedy. But, dill is also an herbal remedy for gas. Take a teaspoon of honey and add one drop of Dill oil to it and gulp it.

Dill oil is not recommended for pregnant women.

21. Activated charcoal

Charcoal helps in drawing excess gas from the intestines of a human body. Get charcoal tablets from nearby stores. Take one charcoal tablet before and after having a meal.

22. Celery leaves

Chew some celery leaves to get relief from gastric pain and irritation.

23. Onion juice

Drink the extracted juice of onions to get relief in gastric problems.

24. Herbal tea

To improve your digestion process prepare a tea of blackberry, raspberry, mint, and chamomile. Mix all these in boiling water, steep, strain, and drink.

25. Coconut water

Coconut water is rich in proteins and minerals. Drinking coconut water helps you to overcome your gastric troubles. Consuming coconut water regularly helps your body becomes rich in proteins.

26. Organic parsley

Parsley is also good during gastric problems. Eating fresh parsley is beneficial for digestion. Add parsley as a dried spice or fresh in your food. This helps to prevent the intestinal gas problem.
