15 Home Remedies for Tinnitus to Stop Ringing in Ears!

There are a number of conditions that cause tinnitus like hearing loss, damaged ear drums, exposure to loud noise, damage to the nerve endings in the inner ear, jaw joint disorders, diabetes, high cholesterol, ageing, tumors, wax or any foreign matter in the ear, high or low blood pressure, neck injury, head injury, certain medication and even allergies.

Symptoms of Tinnitus involve different types of noises in your one or both ears when there is no external sound actually present.

These noises include ringing, roaring, buzzing, hissing, and clicking.

Home Remedies for Tinnitus

1. Onion

Crush an onion to make a paste. Press this paste using a sieve to extract the juice from it. Pour 2 drops of it in your ear.

2. Oils

You can do massage or try aromatherapy using certain oils such as lemon, cypress, rosemary oil. Else, you can also use them in a vaporizer to help increase blood circulation.

3. Glycerin

Mix one teaspoon each of glycerin and salt with one pint of warm water to stop the ringing sound in your ears. Pour this solution in a nasal spray bottle and spray it in each nostril. Allow it to drain into the back of the throat. Repeat this process 3 times a day.

4. Fruits and vegetables

To stop the ringing in your ears, you must intake fresh green vegetables, dried fruits garlic, raw fruits, pineapple, cooked legumes (beans), nuts, kelp, sea vegetables and edible seaweed in your daily meal.

Deficiency of zinc may also lead to tinnitus and various other types of hearing loss. So, proper intake of foods that are enriched in zinc such as spinach, collards, cucumbers, brussels sprouts, cowpeas, string beans, prunes, and asparagus may prove to be beneficial in treating tinnitus.

Also, intake of foods rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, potassium, manganese, magnesium and amino acids rich foods encourages blood circulation and helps to minimize the ringing caused in the ears.

5. Normal water

Take a bowl and a rubber bulb syringe, fill it with normal water. Then, bend your head over the bowl and hold this position for some time. squirt the water into one ear canal using the rubber bulb syringe. Turn your head (a little), allowing the water to run out of the ear. Repeat this process with the other ear also. dry your ear using a little alcohol or with a hair dryer after showering or removing wax.

6. Fenugreek seeds

Prepare a herbal tea by adding 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds to a cup of boiling water. Sip this tea daily. It may prove out to be the best remedy in reducing the uneasiness of tinnitus.

7. Basil leaves

Take few basil leaves and crush them into a paste. Press this paste on a sieve and extract the juice. Heat it till it becomes warm and then put two drops of it in the affected ear. Repeat this process 2 times a day.

8. Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba is considered to be the best herbal remedy for tinnitus. It improves blood circulation, which in turn improves the ear functioning and reduces the ringing sensations. This magical herb also has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can treat any underlying infection that might be contributing to the condition. To treat your tinnitus, you can buy its extract from herbal drug stores. Take it daily, ideally in 3 or 4 divided doses, for 6 weeks to get positive results. Well, better to consult your doctor before starting this treatment yourself, as this herb may interact with certain medications. Remember, Ginkgo biloba should not be given to children.

9. Plantain

Fresh plantain extract is also best herbal remedies for the ears. Else, drink 2 tablespoons of juice thrice a day for six weeks. You can also rinse your ears with calendula or plantain infusion. dry your ears using a cotton swab, to avoid chilling.

10. Goldenseal

This herb may prove to be useful in some cases of tinnitus. Alternatively, you can also use 1:1 combination of black cohosh and goldenseal. do not use this remedy, if you are pregnant.

11. Apple cider vinegar

ACV is an antifungal and anti-inflammatory agent that can also be used to treat any underlying infection that might be contributing to tinnitus. It also balances the alkaline level in the body. Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and a little amount of honey in a glass of water. Drink this solution 2 or 3 times daily until the ringing sensation in the ears stops.

12. Garlic

Garlic can be effectively used to treat tinnitus caused by high altitudes or cold weather. It helps reduce the inflammation and also improves blood circulation. Also, it possesses antibacterial properties that can get rid of any infection that might be contributing to the problem.

13. Ginger

The medicinal and healing properties of ginger help in improving blood circulation, fighting free radicals and to get rid of pathogens. Furthermore, it possesses aspirin-like properties that can reduce the pain accompanying tinnitus. Add ½  teaspoon of freshly grated ginger to a cup of hot water. steep for 10 minutes and then strain it. add a little honey. Drink this herbal tea twice a day for several days to ease tinnitus symptoms.

14. Mustard oil

Mustard oil is a natural rubefacient, thus, helps increase circulation. Moreover, its antifungal and antibacterial properties help in treating ear infections. It also boosts the immune system to protect against further infections and removes the buildup of earwax.

Warm mustard oil in a microwave. Put few drops of it directly into the affected ear. Allow the oil to sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Next, tilt your head to the other side so that the oil drains out of the ear. with the help of an ear bud, remove the softened earwax. Repeat once daily for few days.

15. Pineapple

Pineapple helps to lessen inflammation throughout the body due to the presence of an enzyme called bromelain. furthermore, pineapple also has various vitamins including vitamin A. Eat fresh pineapple at intervals throughout the day to reduce inflammation. You can also have fresh pineapple juice.

  • Avoid caffeinated beverages as caffeine increases ringing in the ears.
  • Manage your stress, either through relaxation therapy or exercise.
  • Eradicate ear wax at least once a month.
  • Take complete rest.
  • Avoid salt intake in your meals.
  • Quit smoking and consumption of tobacco
  • Avoid loud music.
  • stop drinking alcohol
  • use stereo headphones with care.
  • To relieve pain in ears, make use of warm compress.
